The Journey...

Join Us At The Phoenix Rising Motorcycle Summit!

You've heard that every journey begins with a single step, well, ours begins when the kickstands go up!

On Saturday, October 20th, we will be heading out from Asheville, North Carolina to make our way to Phoenix for the Rising Phoenix Motorcycle Summit. Along the way, we will be sharing thoughts and insights about courage, growth, overcoming fears, creating the life you desire (and deserve!) and so much more!

We invite you to join us on the journey, whether by bike, or by simply following along through our blog and social media posts. There is ALWAYS something to learn, something to share, and something to think about - so, ride along with us and see where the journey leads!

Itinerary

We are taking the show on the road and invite you to join us for a vision quest like none other. Our mission with A Rising Courage is to take a modern approach to a rite of passage with the motto “there’s no need for fasting or do it alone.” This adventure won’t lead us into the wilderness to be alone, however, we will be searching for clarity, purpose, or a dream. We won’t be eating any bugs (save for a few unlucky ones that we run in to on our motorcycles). Life is a journey we make together – it’s time to rise!

The only place to start is to start is where you are. You've heard that every journey begins with a single step, well, ours begins when the kickstands go up (KSU). Let the ride of passage begin!

The Journey Of A Lifetime

Get to know Teri and Dolores

Teri's Journey

What attracted you to this event? I have to be honest, it's not the event that initially attracted me, it was the ride. When Dolores asked me to ride to Phoenix with her I didn't think there was any way I could make it work. I spent last year on a boat doing The Great Loop and am still transitioning. It was a big move back to land, not to mention moving to North Carolina and trying to develop my business there, I didn't think I could make the trip this year. At the same time, I felt a real draw to the ride that I couldn't ignore. Dolores convinced me that this was the perfect time for a journey like this, as a "vision quest" could help me not only transition, but fully define my purpose and the messages I long to share.

What do you hope to gain from the ride? I believe this ride offers two main purposes: One - it allows me to share some of what I have learned along my path in life. I have experienced some interesting things along the way, and would like to help others on their journey. Two - I believe the ride will bring me clarity in my role on this earth. I have been a jack of all trades, and that is a good thing, but I feel like everything I have ever done and learned is starting to come together to create something important.

What will you be riding? Well, I am wishing I had the BMW 1100R I used to, or the Honda Goldwing 1800 I rode to Nova Scotia. But, as it stands right now, I will be taking a trusty little Suzuki SV650. It's been a while since I've ridden a small bike on a big trip, so, I am hoping my 51 year old body doesn't fight me too much!

How long do you expect it to take to get to Phoenix? "By the time I get to Phoenix......." (I just can't help but start singing at the mention of this!) We are giving ourselves 4-5 days to get there, will be there 5 days, and then we will ride back - probably a little leisurely! We will be taking stretch and health breaks every 150 miles or so, and will spend the nights in hotels so we are warm, safe, and have a soft bed to rejuvenate in at the end of the day.

Any special comments? I have got my first motorcycle when I was 9 years old, and have ridden on and off ever since. I have been a member of the Motor Maids, and have ridden all over the East Coast and into Canada/Nova Scotia. This trip is my first trip West, and the first one where I am far more interested in the ride than the destination. I think that accurately reflects my philosophy on life, now, too. Every experience I've had led me to this exact place, and this place will lead me to the next... While I believe it's important to have an idea of where you want to go, and what you want to accomplish, it is equally important to appreciate and respect the journey to get there. I am excited to see what comes next!

Dolores' Journey

What attracted you to this event? The mission and the stories of the women of the Phoenix Rising Moto Summit inspired my desire to make this journey. The cause echoed within me and flamed the fire of my personal mission as a pathfinder and coach. I wholeheartedly believe in the strength and power of the tribe and the support of a community. Toss in the love of motorcycles, wind therapy, self-love, with giving to a cause – it was a calling that I could not ignore!

I wasn’t sure exactly how it would unfold, and really, I’m still not - this is part of the adventure and the unknowns of life. Who would join me? I had no idea. All that I knew, and continue to believe, is that I have to do it. I took the leap and started inviting others to join me! When I ride, I am honestly in the moment. I love the wind, the conversation, and community. I’ve still only ridden a few times solo. I know the day will come that I will tour across the country by myself – this is not the time. I’m delighted that my friend and kindred spirit, Teri is joining me on this vision quest!

What do you hope to gain from the ride? I am pretty sure that Teri and I were destined to make this ride together. A couple of things that we hope to achieve from the journey are shared: one - sharing our own experiences with others (yes, when we share from the heart, we receive!); two - clarity for our purpose on earth. Similarly, I have often claimed to be a jack of all trades, and like the kaleidoscope, I have many colors, shapes, and prisms to my personality! My desire for this quest is that these come into a beautiful visual ritual and system that will make an impact on our world.

What will you be riding? I’ve had a total of three motorcycles to date. My first, a Suzuki Intruder, my second was a 2014 Switchback. Going with me on this quest is my “Angel,” a 2007 Softail Deluxe. I’ve loved all of my motorcycles. However, Angel is the one that gets me and fits me best. She's needed a few tweaks along the way such as new shocks to give her height, blinker extensions, and smaller grips because I have small hands. Minor adjustments that make for a strong bond in any relationship; seriously, it’s the little things that make a difference! The longest ride that we’ve taken together was from North Carolina to Washington D.C. We’ve learned a lot on the road (me and my Angel!) I’m sure that the with the miles ahead there will be many, many more. I’m expecting that this ride will be just as sweet!!

How long do you expect it to take to get to Phoenix? Calculating approximately 400 miles a day, it should take anywhere between 4-5 days. I’m new at this, so I’m going with the flow. Another part of the journey!! We will get there when we get there. It is essential to stop, hydrate, stretch, fuel and ride a safe ride!! “We’ll sing in the sunshine, we’ll laugh every day”…sharing our stories with you along the way!!!

Any special comments: One thing that I’ve learned in my 56 years, is that we all have dreams, hopes, and desires. Also, we all have fear, despair, and unhealed wounds. It’s time to take a look at all of them with a new lens. Learning to let go of those that no longer serve us, keeping those that do and embracing them with courage, gratitude, and grace!

I was honored to be in the June 2018, Fast Lane Bikers Publication - She Rides section. I had to write why I ride in 30 words, and I wrote: “I ride to inspire. I ride to show my courage and change perceptions. I ride because when the wind is in my face and hand on the throttle, I'm ALIVE!”

We all must learn to ride our own ride and discover our own kind of brave!!
